Our Souper Bowl of Caring is going into overtime (for real!)
If you forgot your non-perishable items, please bring them in on Sunday, February 18 and leave them near the wagon-zone. Monetary contributions can be left in the regular offering plate.
Everyone is a winner by participating and the MVPs are the pantries that assist families in need. This year all donations benefit Monroe Food Pantry and Summerfield UMC Food Pantry.
Congratulations to our youth for a successful Souper Bowl collection and fun “soup-gating” fellowship.
****************************************************************************************
In 1990, Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group:
“Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those without a bowl of soup to eat.”
Since then, more than $170 million has been generated for local charities across the country through Souper Bowl of Caring. It has become a powerful movement that transforms the time around the Big Game into the nation’s largest celebration of giving and caring for those in need.
Through this mission, people learn they can make a positive difference in the world as they collect food, raise money and serve at hunger-relief charities and show caring and compassion in local communities across the country.
The annual Souper Bowl of Caring is Sunday, February 11. Our church has supported the cause for many years and this year is no different. Your favorite team(s) may not be in the championship game or you may not be a fan of football, but everyone can be part of the game here at UMC Monroe by bringing in non-perishable food items during the next month. Take an extra bag with you when shopping, fill it up and bring it in and put it in or near the wagon in the hallway!
Our youth will be ready with soup pots for your donations on Souper Bowl Sunday after the worship service and during fellowship time. In case you won’t be at church on that day, consider dropping or sending in your donations early or donate online through the tab on the front page of our website. Your contributions of food and monetary gifts will allow us to continue to support our receivers, Monroe Food Pantry and Summerfield UMC Food Pantry. The good thing about our game is there generally is no unsportsmanlike behavior to prevent us from reaching our goal!
- Bring in canned goods/non-perishable food items. Take an extra bag when shopping, fill it and bring in for the collection! All items can be placed in/around the wagon in the narthex.
- In place of our regular fellowship hour, there will be a soup lunch. Bring in two cans of soup (beef based or chicken based) – one to donate and one to share with your church family. There will be no extra goodies that day but plenty of fellowship!
- Our youth will be ready with soup pots for your donations after the worship service and during fellowship time. If you are not able to join us that day, consider dropping or sending in your donations early or donate online through the tab on the front page of our website.
Ways to give:
To make a donation, cash or checks (made payable to UMC Monroe with “Souper Bowl of Caring” in the memo line) can be left in the offering plate or mailed to the church office. You can also donate online or from our website (umcmonroe.org) — just look for the Souper Bowl donation button!
As a reminder, Souper Bowl Sunday is Sunday, February 11 but donations are welcome any time!
So … you are challenged to TACKLE HUNGER and make this a successful SOUPER BOWL OF CARING! We can all be winners just by participating!
