UMCOR Sunday

On Sunday, March 14 we will be recognizing UMCOR Sunday.  For 50+ years, United Methodist congregations have been taking part in a special offering, laying the foundation for the United Methodist Committee on Relief’s ministry of relief and hope. UMCOR’s work of alleviating human suffering around the world includes disaster relief and supplies, disaster risk reduction, health, and humanitarian development. Gifts to the UMCOR Sunday offering (formerly One Great Hour of Sharing) cover the costs of doing business. This helps UMCOR keep the promise that 100% of any gift to a specific UMCOR project will go toward that project, not administrative costs. UMCOR has no source of revenue for administration except from UMCOR Sunday.

Closer to home, UMCOR has helped to support feeding and food distribution programs in United Methodist churches throughout New York City — a vital ministry during the pandemic. Most recently, they have helped with the winter storms in the headlines, especially Texas. Your contributions are also needed for US Disaster Response and Recovery Advance #901670.

For the next couple of weeks, we will be accepting donations for both UMCOR Sunday and for US Disaster Response and Recovery. There are two ways to contribute:

  1. Mail or drop off your checks payable to UMC Monroe and put “UMCOR Sunday” OR “UMCOR Disaster” in the memo line.  Should you wish to give to both, just note it on the check.
  2. Give online through Realm on our website. On the home page, click on one of the buttons UMCOR Sunday or UMCOR Disaster — you’ll be linked directly to the fund.
UMCOR accepts donations all year long – whether through our church or directly to the organization. The need is always there to assist our brothers and sisters around the world.
